Upon tryout with consideration of existing USA swim times or coaching discretion, your swimmer will be assigned to one of the groups below:
HEAT 5: (45 minutes; 2-3 days a week)
- Pre-competitive swimming
- Fun!!!
- Proper technique for four competitive strokes
- Basic endurance
- Starts and turns
- Competitive swimming, rules, and etiquette (circle swimming, pace clock reading, etc.)
- Safety
- Swim meets (what is expected and what to do)
- No attendance requirements
- Meet participation recommended
HEAT 4: (75 minutes; 2-3 days a week)
- Competitive swimming
- Introduction to dryland training
- Fun with purpose
- Further endurance building
- Race strategy
- Technique refinement
- Age Group swim meets
- 1 in season meet per season and champ meet required (2 total meets minimum).
- If qualified, attending finals is necessary at prelim/final meets.
HEAT 3: (90 minutes; 3-4 days a week)
- High level competitive age group swimming
- Fun with purpose and focus
- Refinement of dryland training
- Enhanced endurance building while holding proper technique
- Introduction to sprint work
- 60% practice attendance requirement
- 3 in season meets per season and champ meet required (4 total meets minimum).
- If qualified, attending finals is necessary at prelim/final meets.
- Base interval times are required, for example hold 5 x 100 free on 1:20; hold 3 x 100 free kick on 1:45
HEAT 2: (120 minutes; 3-4 days a week) Ages 13 and up
- Striving for elite performance
- Beginning development of elite habits
- Balancing fun with training
- Advanced dryland training
- Enhanced endurance building while holding proper technique
- Enhanced sprint work
- College recruitment strategy (if desired)
- College swimming prep (if desired)
- 70% practice attendance requirement
- If qualified, attending finals is necessary at prelim/final meets.
- Nearly all practices and meets are expected to be attended. Attendance communication is required for conflicts.
- Base interval times are required, for example hold 5 x 100 free on 1:15; hold 3 x 100 free kick on 1:35
HEAT 1: (120 minutes; 5-6 days a week) Ages 13 and up
- Competitive swimming is the swimmer's primary focus
- Elite habits expected
- Balancing fun with training
- Advanced dryland training
- Advanced endurance work while focusing on micro technique adjustments
- Advanced sprint work with start refinement
- College recruitment strategy (if desired)
- College swimming prep (if desired)
- Regional, State, and National swim meets
- Sectionals times are expected and required
- >90% practice attendance requirement
- If qualified, attending finals is necessary at prelim/final meets
- Nearly all practices and meets are expected to be attended. Attendance communication is required for conflicts.
